    Thanks for such an interesting post! First, as someone who has been unable to trace her ancestry past great-grandmother, let me tip my hat to you for finding ancestors so very far back! Second, your post, while very factual, made me feel very sad for the women of that time. You are a very good writer and I look forward to reading your book.     I don't think we could trace our ancestors much farther than Czarist Russia. Jews were chattel and not necessarily included in any census for that reason. No baptismal records, lots of pogroms. Hard to find them.
