    Crossbows are sold at many sporting goods stores. There is a separate season for bow hunting, and is popular. Fortunately the only person I've known who does this never shot anything, let alone anyone. Mostly he fell out of trees drunk. Modern crossbows look nothing like the medieval ones, they're pretty high-tech. Sounds like some one's picnic got rained out...
