You don't suppose that would work, do you? It seems that Rowling wrote a mystery under a nom de plume in order to really see what kind of response she would get. The response was good. Reviewers were surprised at the accomplished piece by a debut writer, as if all writers published the first thing they ever wrote! She got decent reviews but only about 20 or so on Amazon. That is, until it was leaked that the author was really JK Rowling of Harry Potter fame. Now the publisher is scrambling to go to press for an additional 300,000, not the modest 10,000 of the first run. One could only be so lucky.
