A full weekend. My other books in the Crispin Guest series launched in October or November, and this is the first to get a summer release. Well, it's a lesson, all right. A LOT more traffic to all the places we need to go because lots of folks are first and foremost heading toward the beach and all that entails. But we managed to make our engagements in a reasonably timely fashion (they can't start without me!)
First up on Saturday was Mystery Ink in Huntington Beach, a small independent mystery bookstore. Debbie, the owner, set a fine table for me with a wonderful cake and we had a very nice little crowd.
A cake with the cover! And a little of Craig's mead.
I gave a little powerpont talk and then we signed books.
It was time to get on the freeway again and head toward Pasadena to Vroman's bookstore, a BIG independent bookseller.
This is the BIG event where we serve mead and medieval food. I like to set things up just right.
The table is set with food and weaponry. But of course!
People partake of the many cheeses and meats.
More photos are taken.
Me and fellow author Kate Thornton.
The queue for pictures with Crispin.
And then it was time to get down to business with my presentation.
And a brief public reading from CUP OF BLOOD. After much mead was consumed, and the raffle baskets were raffled off, it was time to sit down and sign books. A lovely crowd and many thanks to Vroman's for putting up with my show. (Alas, there were no knights dueling this year. It's not in the budget, and as I told the crowd, you know how expensive it is for a knight out.)
A few of our guests joined us across the street at the Mexican restaurant were we glugged magaritas and dined to our hearts content. We stayed in town (no sense driving all the way back home late just to drive out again to Orange county the next day), so we had a leisurely breakfast and did some much-needed relaxing by the pool.
Then it was off to our final event of the weekend, Book Carnival, another independent mystery bookstore in Orange.
Then signing and more talking.
We got home a few hours ago today. No events for a little while but do check my website for other places that I might be. And thanks to all my loyal readers for braving the heat and humidity and coming out to these various events. I appreciate it. I really do.
